Kurt Dilworth

Vice President

About

Kurt has a deep passion for building boats and bringing customers’ dreams to life on the water. He has over 30 years of experience in the marine industry, and is one of the founding partners of Tomco Marine Group and American Tugs.

  • He had the privilege of working alongside American Tugs founding partners Tom and Mike, who retired before him.
  • His career and hobbies revolve around his love for the water and the craft of boatbuilding
  • Kurt’s journey in the marine world has been hands-on: He has crawled into the belly of an old steel tugboat to clean its fuel tank and laminated fiberglass parts. He also has designed custom twin-engine performance trawlers, and managed the greatest craftspeople in the industry.
  • Outside of work, Kurt is an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying mountain biking, hiking, skiing, and kayaking.
  • He enjoys cruising in his family’s own trawler during the summer months.
  • He’s the proud father of a Carleton student, and is the devoted husband of his biggest supporter.

Erik Bruland

Production Manager

About

Erik came to work for American Tugs as a carpenter in August 2003, and he now is the Production Manager.

  • Erik got his start in the marine industry as a service technician at Action Marine beginning in 1996. 
  • He moved on to Nordic Tugs in 1997 and became a lead in the woodshop. 
  • He joined Little Mountain Woodworks in 2000, building custom cabinetry and furniture.

Kim started with American Tugs in 2022 and now serves in a the key role as the controller for the company.

About

Purchased his American Tug 34 in 2017, he and his family have cruised the Pacific Northwest enjoying summers in the San Juans, Gulf Islands, and Desolation Sound.

  • His favorite destination to date has been the Teakerne Arm Provincial Park in BC.
  • Became a partner in American Tug and served Co-CEO for four years. In May 2023, he sold his interest in American Tug but remained an integral part of the sales team.
  • Childhood dream was to own a boat company.
  • Always available to help owners with questions about their boats, new or pre-owned.
  • An avid fisherman Jeff enjoys salmon fish fishing and crabbing.
  • Worked in the USA, Asia, and Europe for Forbes 400 family offices where his responsibilities included the management of well-known superyachts.
  • Became thoroughly hooked on boating when his family turned him loose in a 9’ tender with a 4-hp Evinrude. The boats have become larger but the passion for boating remains steadfast.
  • Life-long boater, born and raised in Seattle, WA, and throughout his childhood explored Puget Sound in his grandparents 45’ Matthews motor yacht.

Ian McGhie

About

Ian began his career working for the Kadey-Krogen and Grand Banks yachts dealer in Portland, Oregon and Seattle in 1995. He then made the move to Southern California in 1998, and started a long career at Stan Miller Yachts in Long Beach before joining The Kadey-Krogen Group.

  • During his time at Stan Miller, Ian represented Grand Banks, Hatteras, Viking, Sabre, Back Cove, and Mag Bay among others.
  • Ian is enjoying the second chapter of his life with his blended family: his girlfriend, a teenage son who is an accomplished competitive high school sailor, and his two young adult stepdaughters who are both embarking on careers in entertainment.
  • A licensed broker in California and Florida. Member of the Long Beach Yacht Club and California Yacht Brokers Association.
  • When free time permits a simple short family trip to Catalina aboard their GB 32 or Hinckley Pilot is often the most rewarding.

Larry Polster

Larry is lifelong boater and liveaboard cruiser. In 2019, he and his wife, Janet, became fulltime liveaboards, cruising the East Coast between New England in the summer and the Bahamas in the winter.

  • He and Janet’s favorite destination to date has been the pool-clear waters of the Exumas in the Bahamas.
  • Graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University, and his business travels took him to Florida where he purchased and lived aboard a 44′ sailboat. Work eventually brought him back to DC, and Annapolis seemed the logical spot to live aboard and commute.
  • Became thoroughly hooked on boating when he was 12 and piloted his family’s 36-foot Pacemaker the last half of their voyage from Kingston, Ontario, to Rochester, New York, because both parents were too seasick to run the boat.
  • Life-long boater, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and throughout his childhood explored the Great Lakes from Mackinac Island to Montreal.

  • Enthusiastic about boating, client experience, and understanding of intelligent yacht design, she approaches every potential client with energy and fresh ideas.
  • Traveling around the world and meeting people at international boat shows each year feeds her passion for culture and adventure.
  • Grew up sailing Chesapeake Bay as a child, continued learning to sail J/24s on San Francisco Bay, raced competitively in Annapolis, and now enjoys all water activities, both power and sail, on Cape Cod in summer and Florida in the winter.

  • Hears from clients from across the oceans who are living out their adventures of a lifetime.
  • Spent a couple of years cruising from New England down through the Caribbean, where the freedom and beauty of the people and places changed him forever and showed him his purpose.
  • As a liveaboard, he wore a suit and tie daily, though he came home to the water every night and by 6:00pm on Fridays was usually underway to some beautiful anchorage for the weekend.
  • Found a family in the community of boating and marina culture as a liveaboard, and discovered a home that would protect him from his greatest fear—a boring life!
  • Graduated from the University of Texas, he moved to the East Coast and ended up purchasing a 44-foot trawler instead of a house to live in Annapolis on the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Grew up in a family devoted to voyaging on the water in all forms: From sailing across the Gulf of Mexico in regattas to weeks-long journeys down the Colorado River in canoes, his passion for exploration by water has always been his central priority.

Bill is a highly experienced boater and broker of new and pre-owned long-range cruisers.

  • Boating is in Bill’s blood and it shows in his extreme knowledge of trawlers and general boating.
  • He stands ready to help his clients and owners with anything they might need.
  • Moved to Stuart, Florida, and owned two marinas in Florida.
  • He and his wife, Tracie, bought their own trawler and lived aboard year-round on the Chesapeake Bay, where he managed several marinas and captained commercial passenger vessels as well as tow boats on the Bay.
  • Grew up spending half of every year in a house on the shores of Chesapeake Bay and the other half on a farm in Monkton, Maryland. On the Bay he found his true love of boating and it has only grown over the years.
